One of my favorite things to do is gather around a living room with my best friends and try out a new board game or other game. Sometimes drinks are involved (Wine and Cheese and Board Game Nights are A+) and sometimes we just seem like we’re drunk. Since we have a lot more time over the summer than during the year, we end up having a lot of girls night ins with nothing to do. We of course have our favorite games that we play, like Cards Against Humanity or Catchphrase, but sometimes we get tired of playing them and are in the mood for something new. So to get ready for the upcoming summer I did some research on some new games to play and I thought I would share the ten best I found with you so you have some new things to do at your next girls night in.
This game is my new favorite and all you need to play is for everyone to have their smart phone out. A big benefit of it too is you don’t need to download an app to play, you just need everyone to go to the website spyfall.crabhat.com You can find all of the instructions to play here and they do a lot better at explaining it than I ever could. The gist of it though is everyone is at a location and there is one spy who is trying to figure out where you are. Everyone then goes around the room asking each other questions about the location to see if they can figure out who the spy is. It ends up being really funny when people try to get creative with their questions and answers, especially when you get a location like the Crusader Army or a pirate ship.
This is another game where everyone will need their phone, but this time everyone also has to download an app. Like heads up, this is also an app by Ellen so you know it’s going to be good. I had my friends play it last weekend and we had a lot of fun with it. You choose a category and then are given a prompt everyone has to submit a made up answer to. Then everyone is given all of the submitted answers and the real one, and you have to try to figure out which is the real one. Our favorite category was the movie one where we had to make up the plot of the movie based on a title we were given.
I have been trying to get my friends to play this game forever, but so far they just haven’t been down. One day though I will convince them. Anyway, all you need for this game is blank paper, enough pens for everyone playing, and some creative minds. It’s kind of confusing so it’s best if you read the rules here, but basically you make the cards, points, and actions up as you go and then build upon your deck of cards each time you play. So it’s kind of like building your own board game (which sounds awesome).
I’m obsessed with riddles and once spend 3 hours of a four hour car ride doing riddles and minute mysteries with the people in the car. Minute mysteries present you with a scenario, such as “In the middle of the ocean is a yacht. Several corpses are floating in the water nearby.” Then you have to try to figure out how that happened and you can find the answer on the website. We usually do it where someone reads the mystery and knows the answer so we can ask them yes or no questions. They are a great way to pass the time and when you solve one you feel like the next best thing to Nancy Drew. You can find over 100 of them here.
When it comes to my friends and I we love trying the new and geeky board games, but the problem is we are way too competitive to play the ones that you have to work as a team to win. We always need a clear winner and losers. So in the search of new board games this means we are limited. I spent an hour procrastinating a paper by searching around Amazon a few weeks ago and came across this board game that seems to be quite competitive and I can’t wait to try it out. The premise is that you play as a government official in a dystopian society trying to bribe and and bluff your way to power.
For all of you New Girl fans, you’ve probably heard of this drinking game. If you’re like me and haven’t made it to New Girl in your binge list yet you probably are like what is this fascinating game. From what I’ve learned from the website it sounds like a life sized boar game mixed with drinking mixed with the childhood game of don’t touch the lava. It sounds like a great time to be had and the next girls night with alcohol I will be suggesting we play this.
Cards Against Humanity is of course a new classic party game, but what I didn’t realize is the creators of it create a new game called Slap.45. It’s a mix between the classic slap card games like slap jack or egyptian rat screw and westerns. Before you start you get to choose your unique gang that has special powers and your goal is to make it to, and win, the final duel. It has a five star review on Amazon so I have high hopes for it.
This actually isn’t a new game for me, but it was a favorite of ours last summer so I thought I would add it to this list. You play the game as a merchant and you’re trying to sell as much of your product (cards) as you can. You put the cards you are selling in that round in the pouch you are given each round and you can choose to be honest or try to sneak in contraband that’s worth a lot. Then the sheriff of the round has to decide if what you said is in your pouch is actually in there. Everyone takes turns being the It ends up being really fun because you spend the game accusing each other of lying and trying to figure out each others tells (this might be something only my friends find fun though lol)
