I’ve been sitting on this idea for a while and have finally had the time to start the series. The College Profile series is where each week for the next 8 weeks I am going to feature an interview with a college student about the college they attend. I thought this would be a great way to help high school students learn about colleges they possibly want to attend from the students that actually attend them. So often the information you get about a school as a prospective student is influenced by the school (websites, tours, pamphlets). These profiles will be an honest view of the school and talk about the things a prospective student actually wants to know about. I hope this series will also be fun for non-prospective students though since I think it’s kind of fun to see what life is like at other colleges and how yours compares.
This week the lovely Faith of Faith’s Girly Life is talking about her school, the University of North Carolina Charlotte. Read below to learn all about it. Since this is the first one, I also would love for everyone to also comment once they are done reading with other things that weren’t talked about in the post that they want to know about the colleges I profile. I want to make sure I include everything people want to know about.
A Little Bit About Faith
Major: Special Education
Bio: I’m originally from Denver, CO but moved to Charlotte, NC when I was in 8th Now I attend UNC Charlotte, an instate school for me, where I commute from home- no dorms for me! I love Zumba, going out to eat, blogging, social media, and kids! I’m a pretty extroverted person and really enjoy trying new things (within reason). On campus I am apart of Autism Speaks U which is an organization that brings Autism awareness to college campuses. I am also working to found a chapter of Sigma Alpha Omega Christian Sorority. I’m also considering joining Delight Ministries next school year!
About the School
Classes: Class sizes can range for a 300-person Biology lecture to a 24-person discussion based Education class. I like this range because I like having a little variety when it comes to class size; I wouldn’t want all my classes to be the same size.
Surrounding Area: UNC Charlotte is located in a big city with lots of restaurants and stuff to do right off camps, like Charlotte Motor Speedway, but there’s even more stuff to do in Uptown!
Food Options: My favorite places to eat on campus are Panda Express and Starbucks! My friends and I would always meet at these places, but UNC Charlotte also has Wendy’s, Bojangles, Chick-Fil-A, and more!
Things to Do: We have an organization called CAB (Campus Activities Board) that plans a ton of free events throughout the year. They can be anything from a comedy show to a craft class, and each one is completely free. These events are a great way to do fun things for free. Sports are not huge but growing at UNC Charlotte. I love to do to sporting events because the people who do go really love it and students go to all sporting events free.
Thoughts on the School
Favorite thing about the school: I love that it’s a big school (just under 30,000 students) in the city, but it feels small because everyone basically talks to everyone.
Least favorite thing: There’s always construction going on which is never fun.
What Makes the School Unique: I think UNC Charlotte is unique because it is a big school that feels small. I think that people can get lost at big schools sometimes but that doesn’t happen at UNC Charlotte.
What else do you want to know about UNC Charlotte that wasn’t included in the post?
