I think that as we get older and life drags us down, we forget to be hopeful and excited for what is to come. We worry about what we are going to do after graduation and forget to remember all of the exciting things that come with graduating college and being a real adult with a real income. We assume that because something has never happened to us that by hoping for it will just lead to disappointment. We’re taught that if we want to see something happen we need to do it ourselves and that wishing and hoping won’t get us anywhere. I think there’s something powerful and magical though about wishing on a star or throwing a coin in a wishing well. You’re putting your hopes out into the universe and sometimes the universe rewards us for doing that. I also think it makes us realize what you truly want in life because when you’re only given one wish, that wish better be the most important thing in the world.
If you are fortunate enough to find a good group of friends make sure to hold onto them tight and never let them go (this is of course figuratively and I highly recommend you don’t try to plot how to keep them from going back to school because they will not appreciate it). I was fortunate enough to meet the best group of girls ever in high school and two years after we have graduated we are still as close as ever. They are the type of friends that no matter how many miles separate us, I can call and they will help me out no questions asked. We aren’t perfect friends by any means, and probably fight about if we should take a vacation in December or May more than any people who are going on vacation together should, but that’s what makes we have so amazing. We aren’t afraid to challenge each other and we are all willing to stand for what we believe in, especially when it is believing in each other. Throughout the past two years we have all grown as people a lot and as a result we have also changed, but even with these changes we still come together every time we’re home like nothing has changed between us. Those are the kinds of friends that I think everyone needs to have and if you haven’t found them yet, I’m 100% sure they are out there somewhere waiting to be found.
I’ve begun to notice the little things more in life and it has made me a lot more appreciative of things and just happier in general. When we focus on the big picture, it can easily be clouded by negative things that are happening in your life. By focusing in, moment to moment, you can appreciate each moment for what it is. I have had a lot happen in my life this year so far. Some of the things have been amazing, life-changing things and others have been things that were some of the hardest I have had to go through. It’s those little happy moments amongst the hard ones that keep me going.
This is one of my all time favorite quotes (I even names my Tumblr blog after it). I love it because first of all it uses the word darling and I’m a huge fan of that word. Secondly, I love how it comes from a very unlikely place, The Incredibles. Of course I also like the meaning of the quote. How by looking back into the past we aren’t fully present in the current moment. It’s really easy when there are big changes in your life to look back at how things used to be and how they seemed so much better, but memories have a funny way of changing exactly how something was. So I try to make it my goal (while it is sometimes hard), to live fully in the moment and not let my past distract me.
